Seriously...y’all still litter?
Time to change your ways. Today’s political and social atmosphere has done a darn good job at emphasizing the importance of respecting our environment. Even if you grew up in a household that did not emphasis putting waste in its place, you have no excuse now. If you watch the news, read the paper, surf the web, or listen to the radio, you know that litter affects the beauty, health and safety of one’s community. Environmental stewardship is a part of everyday life in the 21st century.
Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful works to educate people about the ill effects of littering behavior. Put aesthetics, safety, and health issues aside for a moment, and remember that littering is against the law. You can be fined up to a $1000 for littering just a single item out of your car window in the state of Georgia.
You would think that with all this rationale, getting people to stop littering would be like snapping your fingers. Well, we are here to tell you that trying to change people’s habits can be extremely challenging. Littering is a learned behavior. Children see adults do it and they think that it is OK to do themselves. It is a vicious cycle that is hard to break...grrrrr.
It is this very frustration that led Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful to the “Seriously...y’all still litter?” campaign. With a sarcastic tone and a twinkle in our eye, we are hoping to get folks to question their own behavior, to help break the cycle. And so we ask “Seriously...ya’ll still litter?” Because if you do...it truly is time to change your ways.
